Inspirational Malaysian: Yuveena Gunainthran

“I started singing when I was 8. In fact, I began with Chinese songs as I attended a Chinese primary school. Surprisingly, at that young age, my parents were very supportive of my passion for singing. They were really encouraging and never put me down. My passion for music was inspired by my dad who used to be a lead singer in a band during his younger days.

To date, I’ve joined many singing competitions. Yes, I’ve lost and won, tasted victories and losses. But I didn’t give up. I kept training. During my high school days in Tenby International School, I joined the school rock band and started singing English songs of various genres. I believed music was what I wanted to do in the future and I was determined to work hard for it. My dream was to be a star.

This year, I was very surprised and fortunate to be able to represent the Malaysian team for the 20th World Championships of Performing Arts – WCOPA in Hollywood. It was a remarkable experience winning Silver in the Vocal Broadway category. I am thankful to God and my parents, family and friends for being supportive throughout my music journey.” – Yuveena Gunainthran, singer
